two thirds of the hypercolour label team, alex jones and ste roberts, present the first initials 12 inch of 2013 in the form of shard in the hole by blue & green. otherwise known as bareskin & j.wiltshire, blue & green have already developed respectable reputation for themselves. bareskin, aka 19 year old josh thompson from winchester, has set his stall out with non-standard house workouts for losing suki and hypercolour while j.wiltshire has an imminent ep for the prolific imprint.as with previous initials releases,shard in the hole has a techno leaning stance, albeit one with a far from purist outlook. the title track is a broken 4:4 track that builds towards a solitary pulsing bass note and skittering high end percussion and arpeggios. bring me down on the flip is a housier groove complete with an unnerving bassline and clipped vocal samples complimented with distorted washes and theremin-esque tones.

this release shows the diveristy of alixs amazing production skills and the end result is a spectacular four tracker that effortlessly glides us from the beautiful deep and warm vibes of no loss to the jittery vocal skills of treat me, via the analog gem bdrk and josh wink favourite champion sound. debuts dont get much better.
